COVID-19
As you know, we are currently experiencing a global pandemic of the illness COVID-19, which is caused by the coronavirus. Currently, the Delta variant of COVID-19 cases is on the rise across the nation. On July 27, 2021 “the CDC recommends that everyone in K-12 schools wear a mask indoors, including teachers, staff, students and visitors, regardless of vaccination status,” said CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky in a briefing. The CDC continues to recommend masking and physical distancing as key prevention strategies. Please stay tuned to email communication from the school for further updates.
CDC health officials are recommending the following:
- Wear a mask when in school, stores, etc. where social distancing may be difficult
- Social distancing - stay 3 ft away from others
- Wash your hands frequently using soap and water, washing for 20 seconds
- Use hand sanitizer when soap and water is not available
- Cover your cough and sneezes with a tissue or your inner elbow
- Avoid touching your face
- Avoid areas where there are more than 10 people
- Stay home if you have a cough, runny nose, fever, sore throat, etc and seek medical advice

Parental Guidance For Their Students Attendance
The Lisbon Schools will be following the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and/or the Linn County Public Health Departments (LCPH) guidance for when your child(ren) need to stay home.
As of 8/2/2021, masks are not required to be worn during the school day or on the bus. The CDC is recommending staff and students to wear facial coverings when returning to school this fall. Currently, the state of Iowa has a law that states schools or other governmental agency cannot mandate masks being worn.
Parents will need to SCREEN their child(ren) every morning before sending them to school. Screening should include taking their temperature and asking about sore throat, cough, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting and headaches with a fever. If you do not have a thermometer, please call Nurse Julie at (319) 455-3500, ext. 126.
For more info on how to wear a mask, etc. go here: How to Wear Cloth Face Coverings
If you or your child(ren) are EXPOSED OR BECOMES INFECTED with COVID-19, please follow these guidelines: Quarantine and Isolation Information
Influenza
Influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by the influenza virus. It can cause mild to severe illness. Serious outcomes of flu infection can result in hospitalization or death. Some people, such as older people, young children, and people with certain health conditions, are at high risk of serious flu complications. The CDC states the best way to prevent flu, is getting a yearly "flu" vaccine. Visit the CDC website for more information.
Illness Policy
The Lisbon Schools has an illness policy stating students MUST BE fever, vomiting and diarrhea free for 24 hours before returning to school. They must be fever free without the use of fever reducing medication like ibuprofen or acetaminophen (Tylenol). This policy helps students who are ill to not come to school and potentially infect other students.
